How a homeless man started making $1100 a week driving for Uber!

“Don’t be afraid to take a chance”

This is what Los Angeles native Darrell Thomas, who was homeless just three years ago, said when we had a moment to speak with him about his story and recent success in the ridesharing industry.

After being jobless, homeless, and hopeless, Thomas, 32, a Los Angeles native, needed direction. In terms of supporting himself, he wasn’t sure what else there was for him to do…until he found HyreCar.

“I always thought that driving for Uber would be cool and an easy way to make some money, but never thought it was an actual possibility because I didn’t own a car. One of my friends told me about HyreCar and ever since then I have been able to get on my feet and now I am in the best financial position I’ve ever been in.”

Once he received his driver’s license, Thomas signed up as an Uber driver and saved up enough money to start with a two-day rental from HyreCar. He parlayed that into a few more rentals, which has allowed him to continue driving with HyreCar ever since.

“The transition from car to car is so simple. When I first started driving, HyreCar made it so easy for me to try out several different types of cars in order to find out the exact type that I wanted.”

Thomas started as an UberX driver in a 2014 Toyota Prius and was extending his rental day to day, slowly increasing his earnings every week. Now he is currently driving a variety of luxury vehicles and is making around $1100 every week, driving for Uber Select.

“No matter how tough life can seem, there are always ways to create something better for yourself. I still don’t know where I would be today without HyreCar.”

Darrell increased his salary by $4,400 every month by renting with HyreCar. How much would you like to increase yours?

Thank you for such an inspiring story. It really motivates me when I hear enthusiastic people bring positive energy, AND REALLY APPRECIATED.. After reading about Darrell Thomas story, and most ridesharing company policies on criminal background checks, it’s unfair to be restricted access to engage with any ridesharing company based on the level of crime. For example, any pety theft or larsony charge in most states are considered misdemeanors. Regardless how irrelevant the criminal charges will effect the drivers to work need to work, it’s discouraging to be considered ,under most ridesharing company policies, as denied to engage with any company and all because of a misdemeanor charge for PETY THEFT. I’m very disappointed that they have no consideration for “criminals” need to be kept away from “criminal activity” but not given an opportunity to access employment and end with a difficult situation to stay away from returning back to “criminal activity”. There’s a lot I want to say, but to be briefly about my experience as a misdemeanor “criminal”, It’s crucial for this country to start consider changing its standards, or scrutiny, on peoples living environment by the way they’re exposed to crime and punishment, but not exposed to an employment opportunity. I will remain optimistic and wish that WE as people on planet earth can do a lot better taking care of each other and see what comes out of it. Regardless of what company policies are put forward to scrutinize people’s reputation, I’m going to keep advocating for the chance to a better life for all people. Join me… I can’t change my past, and I can’t find a place to live without independent employment, so I have no choice but to be the first to get an opportunity to change my life..

Thanking you in advance of any consideration,
    Isai David
