What Is Amazon Flex?

Amazon Flex is a program that allows entrepreneurs to deliver packages or food for Amazon.

It uses independent contractors to handle the job of delivery. These drivers, called Delivery Partners, are free to choose their own hours, so they can work when it’s convenient for them.

The program offers a few different types of deliveries:

  • Delivering groceries from Amazon Fresh, Whole Foods, and Prime Now
  • Delivering regular Amazon packages, including items from Amazon Prime
  • Delivering restaurant orders from Amazon Restaurants

The program is an excellent option for people who want to make some extra cash on their own schedule.

How Does Amazon Flex Work?

To get started with Amazon Flex, you must first download the Amazon Flex app from either the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.

Once you have installed the app, you can sign in using your existing Amazon account or create a new account if you do not already have one. Once you are registered, you will be prompted to enter your address, and from there, you can begin claiming delivery blocks.

Amazon Flex Delivery blocks are the time slots in which you can deliver orders. You can see what kind of blocks are available for delivery in your neighborhood in the app. If a delivery block is available, you can go ahead and claim it.

Drivers have only a few seconds to claim a block before it disappears from the app screen and delivery blocks are typically between two and four hours long, so it is up to you to plan your schedule accordingly.

When you sign up for a block, you’ll be told exactly where to go and what time to be there. You’ll pick up Amazon packages from an Amazon delivery station and deliver them using your own personal or rented car.

Each block comes with a guaranteed minimum payment, so you’ll always know how much you’ll earn for the day before you even start delivering.

How Does The Amazon Flex Pay Structure Work?

The Amazon Flex pay structure is pretty straightforward. You get paid for every delivery block hour you deliver, and all the details are listed in the app.

But generally, once you’re scheduled for shifts, you are responsible for delivering packages within that block of time. Each block consists of a two-hour or four-hour window during which you are expected to deliver packages to Amazon customers in your general area.

For example, if your delivery block is from 2 pm to 4 pm, it means that your first delivery must be made before 2:30 pm, and your last delivery must be made by 3:30 pm.

Amazon Flex drivers are guaranteed to be paid at least minimum wage for each hour worked. So, if your hourly wage is $25 per hour, but you only deliver one package in two hours’ time, you’ll still get paid (at least) $25 for your work.

Generally, Amazon Flex pays its delivery drivers around $18 to $25 per hour. This can vary based on the demand for deliveries in your area, the type of delivery you are completing (Prime Now, Prime, Store Orders), the time of day you are doing your deliveries, and the number of hours worked.

You can see your earnings on the Amazon Flex app:

  • Block Earnings — The amount you earn for each block, based on the information you entered when you claimed the block, such as how many packages you delivered and how much time it took to deliver them.
  • Total Earnings — The sum of all your Block Earnings, plus any other amounts that may be included in your payment, such as bonuses or tips.
